About World Meditation Day

Each year, we celebrate World Meditation Day – a day that highlights how true meditation can bring about mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.

True meditation occurs when we receive our Self-realisation – the awakening of the Kundalini, a subtle mothering energy within us that connects us to the all pervading power. This enables us to experience inner balance and joy through regular meditation. Sahaja Yoga meditation provides this experience – free of charge.

About Sahaja Yoga meditation.

Meditation is the personal experience of going beyond one’s thoughts, worries and upsets, and being in a state of peace and calm.

In meditation, one is fully alert and aware but free of the unnecessary thoughts or worries that lead to many of life’s day to day stresses. This state of peace and calm occurs spontaneously when one learns how to focus on the experience of the present moment. Through a simple process, known as Self-Realisation (kundalini awakening) this meditation state can be quickly established, maintained and, most importantly, enjoyed!

Who can do meditation?

Everyone… no matter what your race, belief, gender, age or status you’ll find the meditation and associated simple techniques easy to practice. The meditation is practised by millions of people around the world. Its popularity has grown steadily since it was founded in 1970, by Shri Mataji. There are many free online courses and meditation centres around the world that have been established to offer the public an opportunity to experience this simple meditation.

About Shri Mataji – founder

Having developed a new technique of thoughtless meditation in 1970 that both awakened the Kundalini spontaneously and for the first time made possible en-masse Self-realization, Shri Mataji then traveled internationally for more than forty years, offering free public lectures and the experience of spontaneous Self-realization to all, regardless of race, religion, or circumstance. She not only enabled people to pass this profound evolutionary experience on to others, but taught them the meditation technique necessary to sustain their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, known today in over 120 countries as Sahaja Yoga. Celebrated and honored around the world, 2023 marks the centenary of Shri Mataji’s birth.

“When you get your Self-realisation, you become the Spirit. And your attention is enlightened by that Spirit. You become a witness of the whole world, like a drama. This enlightened attention is a very powerful means of spreading divine vibrations”. Shri Mataji – Founder of Sahaja Yoga

What does it cost?

There is no charge for the teachings of Sahaja Yoga meditation. The basic philosophy is to provide the knowledge and experience of meditation to anyone who seeks it. However, expenses for venue hire, advertising and printing etc are sometimes met by voluntary contributions.

Who teaches the meditation?

The meditation is taught by our non-profit community-focused group of meditation practitioners who have been practising this meditation technique for many years.
